My Dear Friends in Christ,

The Lenten season calls us to restore right relationships with God and with one another. To aid this interior conversion of the heart, all are invited to participate in three specific actions: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Each is a way of sacrifice every year, and especially to celebrate Easter, Christ’s death and resurrection.

We are called to pray – alone or in church – to be with God, our creator and faithful companion on our journey. We are called to fast with a sincere, compassionate heart to remove ourselves from the temptations that prevent us from fully loving God, one another, and ourselves. We are called to give alms – not to receive acclaim for our generosity – but to share the many gifts that we have received with those around us and to create a church that supports those who are in need.

May you have a blessed, peaceful, and spiritual Great Lent, leading you to the Bright Pascha of the Lord Jesus Christ!
